GEOFF GLANVILLE was born in Brisbane, and is a retired property professional. Geoff started his property career on the Darling Downs as a cadet rural valuer in 1970, then worked in outback and far northern and far northwestern Queensland. Throughout his outback postings he encountered many of the character types used in his work and this influenced him to largely set “Justice Denied” around the Western Darling Downs region. Following this he entered the hotel business, owning and operating in partnership, a country pub in Maryborough Queensland. On selling this operation, he moved to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast where he re-entered the real estate industry. First as a commercial property salesman and then co-owner of one of the region’s largest property franchises. It was here he met and married his wife, Helen and started a family.
After selling his interest in the franchise in 2000 Geoff branched out into commercial and residential property development as well as developing RAAS, an online real estate sales operation, that was to become largest individual real estate agency in Australia, measured by the number of sales staff. He sold this interest after being diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer and began a prolonged and aggressive treatment regime which ultimately bought him to remission. His forced semi-retirement gave him the opportunity to travel the world with his wife Helen until the Covid pandemic bought plans for ongoing travel to a halt.
The Covid lockdown experience however, coincided with an unexpected new cancer diagnosis followed by the news that he had relapsed from the earlier cancer; a battle he had thought he had already won. These events gave Geoff cause to reflect on his life’s achievements and to retrieve and complete the beginnings of a manuscript that he started some 15 years earlier. As Geoff says, “It is amazing how motivated you can become when confronted by your own mortality.”
While Geoff’s career had largely been property based, he had carried a love of the written word with him throughout his life. During his varied business interests, he had contributed many articles to industry magazines and the general press. “Justice Denied” is his first work of dramatic fiction.
